Ava Liddy
I tend to work in acrylic paint on canvas, painting both still lifes in real life, and building abstract works in my mind. I enjoy taking a space that might be overlooked, which is my way of giving it attention and appreciating the everyday, ordinary sights and moments I have in front of me. I often paint from still lifes, and I enjoy working and learning with perspective to help grow my skills. Painting realistically is something that always seemed so daunting, scary and overwhelming. But the more I choose to sit back and break things into shapes in my mind the easier it becomes. I feel like my art reflects just that, simple shapes and lines that come together to cohesively create a work of art.
Working with acrylic paint is my favorite medium to work in as it easily and quickly enables me to transfer what I am seeing onto the canvas. Creating abstract pieces has been a process of stepping outside of the headspace that there are correct and incorrect answers in art. Once I was able to see that, my work became more personal, and began to have more meaning to me, and more value. Art is fluid. There are many ways to create and I have found a way that works for me, to help me appreciate life and motion around me.
