For a long time I was frustrated with my art, because I could make abstract things rather easily, but I never could grasp realism. Since then, I have learned I don’t have to be good at one or the other, and that I can mix the two. As a kid, I always saw faces in random real-life things. A street sign, the back of a car, a tree. And I would tell people what I saw, and after a lot of staring, they would go, huh! I see it too! I like to replicate this experience for other people through my art. I like to make my pieces abstract enough that the viewer can find things (like faces) in it, while from afar still having a centered look, all while having satirical elements. Art is one of the only things where there’s no ‘right way’ to do it; for me, art is fun! My favorite thing about art is when I make a piece and I love it. Unlike school where academic validation partially determines my pride, for me art feels pressure-free. With art, if I don’t like something, I can change it. I make whatever I feel like making, and the ability to create my ideas excites me. I do this through a range of mediums: painting, drawing, photography, and digital art, but my favorite is pen on watercolor. I am now at a point in my art where I incorporate realism and abstract components into a cohesive piece that makes a viewer not only smile, but also wonder.
